NJ OH x HERMÈS

This is an accessory inspired by the concept of “saddlebag fat” which refers to the natural fat deposits around the hips and thighs. The Belt Bum merges with the craftsmanship of saddlery from Hermès with contemporary aesthetics focused on the bum. I took my inspiration from traditional Western leather saddlebags for horses which have two leather bag pockets on each side. I was like: “Oh, they have those kind of accessory for horses why not for human but for the bum?”. In a world where social media is obsessed with “perfect” buttocks, this belt humorously critiques those beauty standards by creating the illusion of an ideal bum. I have myself have been critisized for my flat asian bum and I can’t change it, it is my gene, we all know. So I created this belt as a playful response by combining the visual language of Hermès horse saddlery with the concept of human “saddlebag” fat.
